Nirantar’s interest in intervening in textbook writing emerges from its vast experience of
producing curricula and teaching-learning materials for rural women and girls. Bringing our own learnings regarding alternative pedagogies into the content and design of mainstream educational material has become a priority for Nirantar. Another concern is to bring the knowledge/ research emerging from women’s studies departments and feminist scholars in different disciplines into the syllabi and content of school education. Nirantar has also been interested in researching the content of school textbooks, with its five-state study titled
Through the Gender Lens.
