In 2003 Nirantar began work on a series of books on women and education. These books will, through the lives of pioneers in women’s education, locate issues related to women’s education in different historical, political and social contexts. The books will highlight the connections between education, gender, identity and nationalism and the continuities and differences in current and historical concerns related to women’s education. These books will be produced in simple Hindi with rich visual material and will give practitioners, teachers, students and educationists access to a body of knowledge that they have largely been denied.
In the pipeline are three books examining issues related to Muslim Women’s Education. The books will be looking at debates around educational content and curricula for Muslim women; educational institutions promoting Muslim women’s education; and will, through Muslim women’s writing, explore their lifeworlds and issues that were of concern to them.
