The design and content of our trainings are rooted in the lives and contexts of women and girls from marginalized communities as well as interactive, feminist educational pedagogy. With selected partner organizations, the capacity building involves intensive support in the form of a series of trainings, inputs designed specifically for organizations, as well as field visits to the organizations.
There is a wide range of trainings, workshops and courses that Nirantar conducts on a regular basis, for which organizations are invited to apply.
Annual Women's Literacy and Empowerment Training
A 7-day residential training to enable partner organizations to design, implement and monitor literacy programs. This training combines perspective-building on literacy, gender, and empowerment with skill-building on teaching language and numeracy.
Gender and Education Course
A 10-day residential academic course aimed at bringing academicians and practitioners together to build a critical conceptual understanding of gender and education, including factors that impact education such as gender, sexuality, and the nation.
Activists Course on Gender and Education
This course is for grassroots-level organizations, working on education with young people or women. This is a 5-6 days residential course, tailor-made to the needs and context of the concerned organization.
Trainings on Gender Based Violence and Sexuality
Training on ‘Gender Based Violence and Sexuality’ enables staff members of Violence against women programs/police/protection officers to understand issues of sexuality and hence better equip them to handle gender-based violence cases.
Perspective-Building on Gender and Sexuality
Nirantar can be approached for gender and sexuality trainings by NGOs, educational institutions, community-level organizations, LGBT groups, governmental programs, etc. The trainings seek to build linkages between personal experience and the larger social, material realities of patriarchy. These trainings highlight linkages between gender and other social dimensions such as caste, sexuality, religion, etc, socially constructed concept of gender, gender transgression, transgender identity, and gender sensitization. Nirantar's sexuality trainings seek to address the inhibitions and fears that staff members have about engaging with community members/students on issues of sexuality. The trainings aim to build a positive approach to sexuality as well as building an understanding of the role of sexuality in both maintaining and challenging power relations related to gender, caste, religion, etc.
Course on Young People, Sexuality, & Rights (Yuva, Yaunikta, aur Adhikar)
The Yuva, Yaunikta, and Adhikar course aims to build capacities of organizations working with young people through a structured understanding of gender, sexuality and its linkages to various aspects of everyday life such as education, health, media and marriage. Through the course, we aim to create a space to critically engage with the everyday realities of karyakarta's own lives and their work with young people, and build a language in which to talk about them.
Gender and Education Trainings with Teachers, Programme Staff, and Planners
These trainings and workshops aim at developing an in-depth understanding of gender, education, and equity. The capacity building is aimed at students, teachers, and practitioners working in community-based programs, teacher educators, and planners. It breaks the divide between theory and practice by bringing concepts to reflect upon lived realities and vice versa.
Trainings on understanding linkages between Gender and Caste
We also conduct workshops on getting an in-depth perspective on how gender and caste are interlinked, and its effects on the lived realities of various identities and individuals.
