In 2002, Nirantar initiated two field-based programmes in Uttar Pradesh. Khabar Lahariya is a rural newspaper based in Chitrakoot & Banda districts of U.P. Sahajani Shiksha Kendra is a programme for empowering rural women and adolescent girls through education. Both programmes, though very different in nature, explore innovative ways of working with women on issues of gender and education.
