Introduction

Nirantar's work in education involves both non-formal, structured learning processes as well as formal education, such as school and higher education. Nirantar began with a focus on adult rural women; today, we also work towards enabling empowering education for young people. Our work has a focus on understanding and addressing marginalisation based on dimensions of gender, caste, religion, class, sexuality, dis/ability and their inter-connections. Questioning 'why', to build a critical understanding of existing realities in order to move towards greater equity and justice, is at the core of our work, be it in our trainings or in our educational material. In all our areas of work, including research and advocacy, Nirantar seeks to push boundaries and explore significant areas of gender justice.
